    The main thing keeping me from moving over to Linux, is hardware support for things like in my case: Edirol UM880 (8in/8out patch/merge rack) * Appears people have attempted it with older distros and drivers. Frontier AlphaTrack (motorised 100mm fader mixer controller) * Just noticed a request was made on Github last week for updated Linux drivers! Wait and see. Apparently it was attempted 13 years ago and with Ardour. Yamaha MU100R rack synths and six PLG boards (Windows VST like GUI proprietry software only) So moving to Linux would likely involve leaving behind much loved gear, and going all plugins etc.

      Fortunately all of my hardware works with no issues. But I know that can be a bummer. I do have several hundred dollars invested in waves plugins and some others that won’t work either. But it is forcing me to use new stuff, which is always good.

      @@demonicsweaters All things considered. if I had to move to Linux tomorrow, I could do so and probably adjust to it perfectly fine. It's just a tool in the end, and probably a good one at that.

    Hey, awesome to hear you're getting everything you need for music on GNU/Linux. I haven't used audio software on Windows or Mac, but started learning to make music with LMMS before switching to Ardour several years ago... I'm loving it :) BTW, thanks lots for your drumkit samples (they've helped me experiment and learn), and for the fruit fly trap idea (...they've been holding some kind of festival in our kitchen for the past couple of weeks, so good timing for your video!). All the best from NZ.

    Cool that you are getting back into Linux, I mess around with it all the time for Audio to see where its at, I use Mac and Windows mainly, but like trying Linux as well to see how the progress is. Just a few things I've found lately for people that may not know, Ardour is great, Reaper native for Linux is fantastic as well, Also Tracktion Waveform 13 just dropped, it also has native Linux version, it has some great built in plugins and software synths, the free version is decent, they just added an Ableton clip pane launcher feature that is very similar to Ableton that looks cool. I use a Beringer UMC204HD with just the Alsa driver, no jack connection and i can get very low latency settings for tracking in all these programs. I'm using Linux Mint Cinnamon or (xfce if I'm using an older laptop) everything works great no crashes, it just works. Yes the Linux days and choices are good theses days from even a few years ago. Thanks for making this video and i can't wait for the live stream and your new songs!

    Hi Justin, great video as always! I've seen a few videos on the Lemon T-950 kit and module and the reviews were mixed, generally cymbals and hi-hat got great review, good drums but some craftsmanship shortcuts and the module not great. There are not a lot of reviews and I see Reverb and Amazon both selling this kit which you can buy with or without the module for $1200-$1500. It seems about 1/3 the price of competition for all that. Could you possibly get ahold of one of these for testing? Trying to decide if I upgrade from my Titan 50 to go for a bigger set and maybe pair it with a used Roland TD-17 module.

    I am using Linux using Oracle Virtual box running on windows ... Are there any limitations when using a DAW within Linux

    • @demonicsweaters
      @demonicsweaters День тому

      The depends on what you consider a limitation. All the tools are available to record just as you would on other platforms. Some software does not have Linux native versions though, there's no Logic, Ableton, Pro Tools, FL Studio. But there is Ardour, Reaper, LMS and others. As I breifly touch on in this video, there are ways to run Windows apps in Linux, but I really don't even think it's necessary.

    ddrum uses XLR connectors due to the cable locking in place, which is more secure for live situations.

    • @demonicsweaters
      @demonicsweaters 2 дні тому

      People keep saying that, but it's really a silly reason. Guitars use 1/4" jacks, and those guys are literally jumping around on stage. You don't see a bunch of guitar cables falling out of guitars do you? I've gigged many times with e-drums using 1/4" cables and have never had one fall out.

    I bought one of these kick drum heads and the jack is not good. It isn't tight enough and so the cable just eventually pops out after about 5-10 bass drum hits. This really should have a locking jack on it IMO, or at least a quality switchcraft jack to insure it doesn't come out. I guess I have to do some work on it. I'm going to try to just bend the contacts first and see if that works. Sucks for the price to have that sort of problem. Shipped directly from China so no way I'm dealing with any type of return or exchange situation.

    I don’t know if I ever babbled before about how much your music has influenced and inspired me but this post seems like an appropriate time to do so. I saw you play a handful of times in the 90’s. I was probably 14 or 15 years old the first time. Those shows inspired me and a few of my super close friends to start a band and a year or so later we were opening for Glendale. I’ve adored the process of making music for all those years after that. That process formed life long friendships and gave me so many amazing adventures all over this blue marble we live on. The 15 year old me and also the adult me thank you for inventing your jams and sharing them with all of us. @@demonicsweaters my ultimate conclusion is they seem most practical for a dedicated drummer who will be on the road or somewhere else without a drum set for a significant length of time, so these can help one get their fix. I'm a dedicated guitarist, but can play the drums fairly well when I practice for a few weeks. As another reviewer pointed out and I agreed, these aren't actually a whole lot of fun to play lol. Full sized electronics and obviously acoustics sure are though. I bought a Casio thinking I would use it for recording when I didn't want to use my electronic or acoustic set, but ended up learning to program sequencers really well instead which was the better option.

    My neighbor yells all day long, plays sh** music too loud, gets drunk in the middle of the night and yells even harder. It's been going on for years, I just can't get sleep without putting on earphones, and it's distracting me when I work during the day. I tried communicating a few times, she does not give a damn and acts defiantly. I live in France, the police won't do their freaking job, so it's basically hopeless. I bought an e-drum set a year ago, put it on a mat, I play only during the day, and of course she's been complaining regularly. Yesterday I installed a couple agglomerated rubber slabs (the kind we put under the washing machine) under the set, with double thickness under the bass drum pedal, I'll see what happens then. I measured the vibrations, came to the conclusion that the level was reasonable, I did my part, now she can basically eat sh** in hell.

I had to basically tell my downstairs neighbor to go ahead and complain, call the cops, do whatever he wants to do, because I'm not breaking any laws or disturbing anyone. The landlord sided with me. They came, heard the sound I was actually making and basically laughed that the guy was even complaining. Since then a violin and tuba player have both moved into the building, and they practice way later than I do, haha. I love it.
